Why Every Home We Build Includes a Radon Mitigation System

Radon is a colorless, odorless, radioactive gas that occurs naturally in soil and rock. It's the second leading cause of lung cancer in the United States. And because it's invisible and undetectable without testing, many homeowners live with elevated radon levels without knowing it.

At Eiger Homes, we install a radon mitigation system in every new home we build — not because it's required, but because it's the right thing to do.

How Radon Enters a Home

Radon gas is produced by the natural decay of uranium in soil and rock. It migrates upward through the ground and can accumulate beneath basement slabs, eventually finding its way into the living space through cracks, joints, and penetrations in the foundation.

Our Radon Mitigation System

The system we install is designed to intercept radon gas before it accumulates beneath the slab. A perforated pipe runs beneath the basement floor, connected to a vent pipe that exhausts to the exterior of the home. Any radon gas that migrates toward the slab is captured and routed outside before it can enter the living space.

Why We Install It on Every Build

Our service area falls within EPA Zone 2 for radon risk — meaning many homes in the area will not have a significant radon problem. But "many" is not "all," and the cost of installing a mitigation system during construction is a fraction of what it costs to retrofit one later.

More importantly, our homeowners deserve to move into a home knowing that this risk has been addressed — not discovered years later during a real estate transaction.

The Result

Every home Eiger Homes builds includes radon mitigation as a standard feature. It's a commitment to the health and safety of every family we build for.

That's #BuiltBetter.
